Using calcium sand as calcium supplement?

I accidentally bought a bag of calcium sand and since it only lists calcium carbonate on the ingredients, would I be able to use it as a calcium supplement for my isopod colony? I know there are other options out there but I wanted to see if I could use up this bag-o-sand first. Thanks!

It should work if you just mix it in with the substrate

If it’s the powdery zoo med one, be careful. If it gets into contact with water it sticks together badly. It clumps up on animals that dig around in it too.

Resurrecting this old thread to say that I have successfully used it, as Lucky123 stated, only when mixed in small parts very thoroughly into coconut coir. Otherwise, as orchidloveXTM stated, the zoo med kind gets horribly clumped and sticky and can suffocate baby isopods that wander onto it.

When the granules are mixed in, I have clearly seen isopods in my colonies actually munching on the grains so they must get something from it. You can also use cuttle bone to supply calcium and trace element needs.
