Does anyone here have a special permit for keeping their bugs? If I buy some insect pets, I want to make sure they're safe to have in the US.

lol. I wasn't asking people who DONT have permits. I was just wondering if anyone did. Like teachers. I was just curious. Didn't mean to scare anyone. Sorry.

Thanks for your help. I know it's kind of a touchy subject here. I did find the permit info I was looking for though.

Permits

There are "some" insects you can keep without permits and you should check with your State Board of Agriculture. Shipping most insects does require a 526permit from APHIS which can be found on their site.

Not the biggest fan of the USDA...they're confiscating mantids and platymeris by saying 'They're introduced species' and 'We'd like to protect honeybees'.

If you're adept at reading between the lines, you'll quickly realize they're confiscating pets to protect an introduced species.

They're confiscating mantids from hobbyiests, when I could order egg cases through Wal-Mart.

Hypiocritical bastards, they are. Like a little kid playing with an ant hill.

To think, for a second, I thought my response might seem too combative. I thought people might suggest I was being hasty.

Nope. We're kinda sensitive to masquerading government officials around here.
