US Air Force Says That Tarantulas and Other "Exotic" Animals are Dangerous, Have to Go

Found this link this morning via Yahoo's Pet Law list, and decided to post it here. I know that there are many people here who feel that bans on THEIR animals of choice will never happen, anywhere, that no one could conceiveably consider THEIR pets to be "dangerous", so they have the attitude that OTHER people's pets can be tossed under the proverbial bus. I have especially seen that attitude by T/invert keepers that animal bans/restrictions won't apply to them. Well, the US Air Force disagrees. Take a look at the list of animals that they are now banning from bases: http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2011/09/air-force-puts-more-bite-in-pet-regulations-091811/ . Don't think that it will just stop with the military, folks. A lot of communities have already used the "if the AF thinks they're dangerous, WE will go along with what they say, because it must be so" reasoning to implement their dog breed/type bans.

Yeah I hate that mentality. I have friends that keep big cats but I fight for their exotic rights just like I do for mine even though I don't keep them.

Protecting people from dangerous animals.

This could easily be used as an example in a dictionary defining paradox. For the U.S. Air Force, arguably the most dangerous entity in the world to fart this out...

not to mention that people are the reason alot of animals and insects and other organisms have went extinct, and people still pretend that they are better than the rest of the life on this earth or in the universe for that matter...personally i think a ban should be put on dumb people..

Being Ex-Army and having to live in base housing for years this isn't news to me. Exotic pets are pretty much banned on any Military installation regardless of what they are.

I personally agree that a ban should be put on stupid people, but if they did that can you imagine how few of us would be left :)

Based on the military's track record of introducing non-natives via military cargo & the itinerant nature of its employees, this may not be a bad idea.

My father-in-law likes to tell me when I discuss blatticulture, that you can track navy bases by the species of non-native cockroach species.
