I got this guy today, confirmed male, and I was wondering what species of Uromastyx he is. I was thinking Uromastyx geyri

Here's some pictures of him:

Sweet, I think I'll stay with it until I cross something that makes me think different.

Oh I am, he has it a good 100F right now. He's currently on sand, I was thinking of getting some of this though..http://www.petco.com/product/102886/Zoo-Med-Excavator-Clay-Burrowing-Reptile-Substrate.aspx
interesting substrate...will look into that.
as far as i know they arent burrowers..but live in rock crevices.
you may want to increase the heat, though...
the whole cage should be about 95-100 on the cool side, but 120-130 on the hot end[in mine, its right over the basking spot]

they can get about eight inches below the heat lamps.
large rocks work better than logs, and will distribute heat better.
also..i know some use sand, but it has been known to kill them..they will ingest it, and intestinal impactions can take a year or two to manifest.

i keep mine on milo..its cheap, dust free, and safe to eat, and they love eating it!
[ small seeds/millet/lentils/powderized beans are a necessary part of their diet.]
just make sure the cage has zero humidity.

you will enjoy him..they are awesome lizards.:)

I'll try some of that substrate out and tell you how it works out. I'll switch the sand as soon as possible.

I heard they do burrow if given the opportunity. I'll definately add a few rocks and what not as well. I was actually planning on building it a little cave similar to yours.

I'm not exactly sure about the temperature, but I am sure it's way over 100F

sounds like you have it handled.
i havent heard of the burrowing, before, let me know how that works out.
they are pretty new to the trade, in retrospect..so there is more to learn, certainly.:)
