Can somebody Please tell me the correct type of UV light i should use for these, I was told its UVB But im unsure what color level the ones i have are B5 is this right? ,
UV light is not exactly a necessity for Blue Tongued Skinks. As long as you provide calcium supplementation in their food at least once a week, UV is not required. Just provide a basking spot of at least 95-100F and your skink will be fine.
Ok I contacted a specialist , The light required is a D3 Reptile lamp its classed as a full spectrum Tube and outputs no more than 5% UVB at 300nm but with the Correct 400nm Uva to allow for vitamin D3 synthesis, These tubes dont come cheap £18 each ,But just incase anyone else has troble finding this out the tube you want is the following.
It's been heavily disputed whether or not blueys need UV. I always provide mine with UV because the way I see it, it can't do them any harm and it's better safe than sorry! The last thing you would want is a case of Metabolic Bone Disease on your hands! So...Good call!
