I live in northern maryland, and right now during the summer the heat has been extremely high and humidity has been high as well, and I've been seeing some animals around here that i havent seen before, especially this toad I cam across in my front yard. He's a big fat mofo, and I've never seen a toad like him before. Normally I find gray and brown colored toads, and none of them were as large as this dude. I caught him and have him in a 5.5 gallon tank (he barely fits in there). He's a voracious eater as well, threw some dubias in there and he snatch ed them all up. What I find most striking about him is that he has a reddish-orange colorization overall with hints of green and yellow on his back legs. He's a large toad as well. Once he is identified I'll be looking to give him a good home - I don't specialized in anything else other than tarantulas...

I'll post pics. I don't think he's a cane toad... but then again I don't know anything about toads. His head seems smaller in relation to his body then a cane toad's, which seem to have a large head.

It's probably a common American toad. They can vary in colour. I've caught orange-ish red ones, and I've seen some pretty good sized females

Here is a description I found:

Bufo americanus
American Toad

Description

Distinguishing Features - Overall colouration, highly variable, usually a shade of brown (rarely gray, red, or greenish). There are black spots on the upperside which contain one or two warts; these black spots often have a white border. Oval partoid gland behind each eye. Underside, white or yellowish, mottled with black. Usually a light mid dorsal stripe runs down the back.

Since cane toads are not native (nor introduced) to your locale ( barring the unlikely possibility that you found an escapee), it's pretty safe to eliminate that possibility.
