k so i been in the hobby a while now, and feel i got a pretty good handle on my ts. i was surfin seattles craigslist, and saw somebody sellin a t blondi / goliath bird eater for 100.00 im DEFINITELY interested but kinda hesitant about it after reading all your posts on t. blondi. i have a fairly large parahybana .. around 6plus inches thats ready to molt i bet within the week. now... 2me.. this is a large spider... the blondi im sure will get slightly larger. but i guess what my question is is do you think its worth it... a large beautiful spider trrue, but with all the cons im unsure... i dont want to shell out 100 bux for the thing to die in a few months during a molt:?

oh yeah... i contacted the seller and asked if theres been past incidents, and if he bought it from a reputable dealer... i am not against wild caught ts personally, however i know they come with more risks... that would be something nice to know before hand. any other things i should take into consideration

Check it out and see if it is what they say it is. If it's T. blondi (much more likely it is T. stirmi) and seems healthy that is probably a fair deal. Usually craigslist sales will have like, a 20 gallon tank with lights, misters, and about $50 worth of other useless crap. Don't pay for that stuff because you don't need it.

No one can know if you're ready to take on a 'blondi' except for you. They have fairly specific environmental conditions that need to be met, if you think you can do so, by all means.

I'd ask for pics at the very least. Firstly, it's probably not a blondi but a stirmi (not a big deal). But for all you know, it's a rosie someone is passing off as a blondi (maybe out of their own ignorance). It could also be a mature male. Find out exactly what you would be getting for your $100

i just found my T. stirmi freshly molted today. I am a rookie when it comes to Ts so if my stirmi molted and its still alive there is no reason you cant do it. we all know the risks with the Theraphosa before we get them.

cool.. thanks guys.. i believe there is no such thing as an expert in this hobby, as everything we learn pertains to a genus IN GENERAL. out of all the ts ive read up on the theraposa genus is one ive often overlooked, as until now had no real interest. i appreciate your prompt feedback. happy hunting

I'd also inquire as to what it's diet has been. If you are nervous about molting issues, personally i'd stay away if the owner has been feeding it mice.
