A friend of mine was at work when she found a large spider on the floor, running. It’s not super quick, and seems to be a female, about an inch or so in size (including legs). I’m assuming she could be a black lace-weaver, but I thought I’d ask on here. 59C0B0FF-1351-4E2A-AD4D-639CA232739D.jpeg 001AC298-C0CB-4909-BACC-114AA7DFCF1E.jpeg 1D8958D8-5AD3-435B-8F44-92B56E0CA672.jpeg

Looks very much like a black lace-weaver, Amaurobius ferox, but you didn't tell us where it was found. Might change the answer.

That might just be a common house spider in my opinion.
When you say common house spider, do you mean the American species Parasteatoda tepidariorum? I keep hearing people refer to common house spiders, so I looked it up. I guess they don't live in my area.

Do you live in EU? If so it's probably Amaurobius ferox.
Common house spider could also mean Tegenaria domestica, and it does have some resemblance, but that's not it.

Seems like A. ferox has been introduced to North America, so I'm still pretty sure A. ferox is correct.

These can get in some homes yes , but I think the basement spider nicknamed daddy longlegs is the house spider . Also known as cellar spiders , but I’ve seen all sorts of types of spiders get in except jumpers. House centipedes absolutely can destroy these things, but the spider can eat the smaller pedes more less seems whoever bites first wins. but if pede gets stuck in webs 🕸 rip although I’ve never seen this happen.
I think I saw one of these black spiders just recently a few months ago.

This is where common names gets confusing. The one actually named "American House Spider" is Parasteatoda tepidariorum. Then you have the "Southern House Spider" which is Kukulcania hibernalis. In Europe "House Spider" refers to Tegenaria domestica, or possibly other species from the genuses/genera Tegenaria and Eratigena.
