Well here's a surprise I wasn't expecting. I bought this T about a month ago at a pet store. The thought of her dropping a sac was the farthest thing from my mind. Well I checked on her earlier and found this...

same thing

happened to me with a g rosea i bought..had her for about 3 months or so and suddenly she sealed off her hide..thought she was molting..didnt know it was a she then either...to my surprise i found a puddle of yellow/clear liquid and eggs which she wrapped up into a sac...however she has since left the hide and the sac is completly covered in substrate so that i cant see it ...or she ate it..but i see no remains...it was almost completely covered up last time i saw her sitting on it. thinking about opening the hide and trying to find the sac or discover nothing is there

Man, some people have all the luck! Congrats! I hope it's a fertile sac and you get many little ones from it. I sent my only A. avic away on breeding loan in June and we still don't have a sac yet. Maybe someday.

I don't suppose anyone knows the gestation period of an A Avic. off the top of their heads. I knwo that 50-60 days is ball park but does anyone have any closer guesstimates?

I had an A. Avic sac about 8 months ago. I waited exactly 52 days and peeked in the sac to see if they were ready to come out, and they were. Hope it helps. Easy to raise.

I have seen Avicularia sp. get to the post-embreyo stage which is the Eggs with legs stage at 28 days or so. 50 days should be good for 1st or 2nd instar.

thanks, I appreciate it. Hopefully she won't eat the sac. I din't really want to try breeding, and all that, but now that a sac was dropped I guess my hand has been forced. Oh well, we'll see how this goes.

Normally Avics make good moms so they normally don't eat the sac unless they know its not fertile. Good luck

here's a few more pics of the sac. I think it may be growing. I'm probably going to pull it around the 20th I'm off that weekend and that should be around 30 days, give or take.

Well I took the sac today, opened it up and the eggs were all dried out and stuck together :( Oh well, maybe next time.
