I've had this jumping spider for a few months now, and promptly named him Timothée Chalamet, to keep with my nameing theme of celebrities. I think he's a regal jumping spider? But I'm not positive. I have yet to actually see him eat, and I'm worried about him as his abdomen is getting thinner and thinner.

I've tried feeding him crickets, and mealworms, but nothing seems to get any weight on him.

Other than his concerningly skinny abdomen, he appears perfectly healthy, and is very active.

Any ideas?

Pictures of him:

Jumpers usually eat pretty freely :/ Try putting him in a well-lit area, they use their eyesight to hunt and thus prefer lighter places. Make sure the prey is not any bigger than him. Maybe try something smaller? Also how do you know for sure he's not eating? It can be hard to fatten them up, but if your jumper seems to be taking the prey, I wouldn't worry too much about the weight.

But if you know he's not eating and it's been a few weeks, he has made no sign of being in premolt, the best thing you can do is let him go and try with another jumper. Some spiders are perfectly fine eating in captivity, some aren't. Good luck <3

You can try pollin , it comes in little bags you can order it on the interwebs, honey water is good too, it's not a long term solution but will give some nutrition while little one is on hunger strike.
@goofyGoober99 is better with these then me idk if they have anything to add .
Idk if its just me but is your friend a mm? Those front legs look extremely suspicious. He may not be eating if he is looking for his girl.

Timothée does look like a potential mature male and if that's the case it might be a bit tough to get him to eat.
Try to get a good look at the tips of the pedipalps and compare to pics of mature males

My P. audax Marceline (who was only i4ish at the time) had a bit of a moment in February and didn't eat for a month.
The recovery process was pretty rigorous and this likely won't have much if an effect if Timothée is a mm.

I moved her (she's still too small to sex but idc I'm manifesting lol) to a 3x3x3 inch cube with a good amount of substrate and a largish piece of cork bark.
I watered a corner of the enclosure and spritzed some water on the wall every day. If jumpers are dehydrated they won't eat so gotta cover all your angles.
I offered food almost every day (like 4/5 days a week), switching it up as much as possible and always prekilling and leaving in the same spot.
On days I didn't offer food I would put honey water on a qtip and try to get her to drink (not pestering her or anything just putting it in front of her and seeing if she was interested).
Did that for like 3 weeks, she molted, and is doing a lot better now. Still not a great eater but she's alive and active.

This is in no way a guide or anything I'm still pretty new to this it's just what I did.

I can give advice but it's always better coming from someone who has actually been through the experience 😊 that makes your first hand knowledge much better then my theory 😉

Ps glad your girls doing better 🥰

So my tiny i3 babies do this when they get dehydrated they sometimes won’t eat I put some honey and water in a bowl then dip a whip in it and rehydrate them. Sounds crazy but it’s a well known trick for jumpers!! Here’s a pic of one of my babies and screenshotted someone’s post yesterday to show someone else! And the honey gives them a little boost of energy. I’ll put him in indirect sunlight too since they are visual hunters. Hope he eats for you he’s very handsome🥰

An update on Timothy, after many efforts to get him to eat, and hand feeding him honey water and chopped up meal worms and crickets, he sadly passed away the other day. It was surely expected, and as he was a wild caught jumper he may have been fairly old.

Looks like they all gave good advice, just wanted to add P regius jumpers do not occur in Colorado. This is a bold jumper, P audax. Regals are confined to around Florida, Georgia, Alabama those areas.

edit: I made this post before I saw he died. Im so sorry to hear that
