Heyo,

For those of you who still dont know, i had to move back in with my parents. (Due to my already large collection of critters)To make a long story short, i did my little brother's final project and saved him from failing his 8th grade year ;) So my parents have consented to allow me to bring another animal into the house - what my beardeds, stingray, t's and birds and turtles and milli's already. If only they knew what they were getting into. {D

Anyhow, i'am going to need something that's cheap ($40 at the max) cost after first set up is not really a issue. 10 gallonish tank size, most not be to dangerous (I was shot down on a black widow ;)) or exotic (permit wise) and easy to find in VA.

I'am considering tropical fresh water puffers, or perhaps my first scorp. But the puffers are more tempting. Feel free to throw suggestions my way and thanks in advance :)

I'd say get a Leopard Gecko or a FatTail Gecko they make real cool pets and will be something the whole family can hold. I would as suggest a Snake, I don't own any snakes so I don't know what species to recommend.

Well it doesn't have to necc. be friendly with children- trust me as soon as i can find another place (or if i could) i wouldnt and wont be staying here {D.
A serpent would be a good idea, but i couldn't think of one off the top of my head that wouldnt be venomous, and at the same time still "cool", and therefore catching my interest enough to want to care for it. I use the term "cool" losely- i'am not that kind of keeper, mind you. I care for my inverts (and dogs and cats and birds and turtles {D ). Not just because there "cool" to impress someone with. Nor would i know what kind of snake would be small enough and happy in a ten gallon.

A small brackish (sp?) setup would be nice. I have to look and see if they can be done within ten gallons. Then again, there's the scorpions and snakes and that b. smithi i've been wanting...

well if you want fish a lion fish is neat. but i never had any, i did have a chincilla but they cost more than $40. rats are cute and they are cheaper (i had a few and my daughter wants another one). what about a halloween crab? if you would say if you wanted reptile, fish, furry, feathered, 8legged or what ever it could narrow choices a bit. you could alway buy another T... or how about one of those big hissing roaches?? i bought a tadpole from the petshop and had it in my tank, waiting for it to turn into a bullfrog, but it died :( .

Well i'am open to all options. Slimey aliens from mars would be neat even! :p
I dont think i could get keep a lion fish in a 10 gallon. Also, the $40 is more of an area price. Streching it a little wouldn't kill me.

I have no idea what i'll end up with, but empty tanks (and permission to fill them from house mates) dont last long around me. Feel free to suggest away. :)

I dont think i could keep a boa in a 10 gallon, BP. :D
(Even if there small burrowing ones?)

What i'am currently researching: dwarf puffers, brackish setups in general, scorps, and ribbon snakes

well a 10 gallon tank, you could still do the tadpole to bullfrog thing. or a few lizards or other frogs (dartfrogs, treefrogs...) they have some real neatlooking mantids (flower mantis), stickbugs, legless lizards, horned lizards, what about a trapdoor spider? a tank with a seahorse or puffers? and since you mentioned beardies and T's, you could get a few hissers and raise a little colonie for feeders ;) .

First scorp eh? Oh I think you should do that. 10 gal is easily big enough for many species. I would suggest A desert hairy for that. 6 some inches of sand (or more) a log of wood or something to crawl around. He'll be quite happy. Since ur in the states there, I'm sure you can find a desert hairy for probably 15$, something like that. I know they are way cheaper down there than the great white north here. Sand you can just use play sand, mix in some peat, wet it down and done.

I love mine, every nite hes out and about digging, even in the daytime every now and again. Pretty active, and aggressive enough, but nowhere near dangerous. Always sting crickets when I feed ;).

and to seal the deal, I should give you a taste of a possible new obsession for you. (my Hadrurus Spadix, come on, you know u wanna)
