I was just gifted a mystery tarantula-off your collective minds can anyone tell me some differences between a:
Aphonopelma seemani
Grammastola pulchripes
A. Musculosa
I can post a pic, just wanted to know if there’s some obvious differences.
Thanks!

Well hopefully you have Acanthoscurria musculosa. However no way to know anything without clear photos.

Why was this tarantula not labeled? Who gave it to you? Ask the person who gave it to you.

There are differences unless this is a mystery elf trap.

it sounds like a trap though.

pics and all will be revealed.

A. Seemanni has a peach belly and peach spinerettes.
G. Pulchripes has golden knees.
A. Musculosa is pretty rare.
Spider pics make us happy. There is a section in media for spider identification, you can post it there.

Thank you Spartacus -that was a big help. I am an experienced keeper, just never ran into something like this, and they do look very similar. And yes, of course I looked at a million pictures, I’m not an idiot, viper69. I haven’t taken a picture because the enclosure is a tank and pretty filmy. I plan on rehousing very soon. Thanks for all your help

I would've assumed you were a newer keeper as two of those have got to be the top ten most common beginner species and the lack of photo in the first place.

I wasn't familiar with it myself so I looked at pictures...and it looks a lot like another genus and species, and a little like yet another. Depending on where you saw the pictures of the musculosa...I'm guessing that's how you came across the name...I'd also consider the source..I wouldn't trust a simple Google image search. You seem adverse to the advice but there is literally a section on this site for people to post pictures when they want help.

Hate to disappoint you (again?) but no one was being mean. Just giving logical advice.

Merry Christmas

We even have a section where dedicated members volunteer their free time to examine tarantula genitalia 😂

Seemanni blue/gray/black with light orange coloured stripes on the knees n a creamy peach underneath, burrows needs it slightly humid,

Pulchripes brown with yellow stripes on the knees ,digs likes it dry as a bone,

Musculosa dark brown almost black with real dark thighs pampho style n almost white stripes on the knees, slightly humid n like all genics sits out like a rock .

If got a sling it maybe difficult to tell I would wait till they develop their adult colours before taking a guess and you never know if you are lucky n have a female you may be able to tell by spermatheca shape.
Either way gl with your new little floofer , and any more questions you know where we are 😊
