Ugh, the search for horse boarding

So, the lady who has been taking care of my mare for the past 5 years with FREE BOARD, got a new horse, and my horse doesn't get along with him (specifically, she beats the crap out of him). Therefore, I have to find a new place for my Allie to live.

Tomorrow will be a heap of "fun"...I get to drive around town and check out various boarding facilities within my price range. Wish me luck in my hunt.

I've had this horse for 10 years, she's 18yrs old now, and I don't ride her because she hates it. :( She's a pasture ornament.

Pics of her, just for fun:

I'm moving from my barn at the end of the month to a new one. I know what a mess it can be to move...

Hope you find a good place.

Well, I wish you good luck in your move, too. It's so stressful. :( I don't have a horse trailer.

I'm currently horseless, but I've had horses 20+ years of my life. I *hated* trying to find a new stable for whatever reason... it's a pain and the board has gotten so expensive these days... Where I live, the urban sprawl has become bad, it keeps pushing the stables farther and farther away from where I live because the land is being sold for houses, so it got to the point that I had to drive 1 hour one way just to see my horse. Sometimes if I couldn't find a place close by, I would go knocking on people's doors who had pastures, or I would leave them fliers in their mailboxes. I found a few places that way.

I never had a horse trailer, but I never had trouble finding someone to trailer my horse to their new home. Normally, the stable where you're moving to, will do it (sometimes at a price though).

I wish you the best of luck.

My dad is an Equine veterinarian in West Palm Beach, FL. He knows stables all over the state. If you continue to have problems finding a place, let me know and I can give you his number. He might be able to make some suggestions. And I know he knows of several retirement facilities for horses, Ive heard him talking about them before.

Good luck! Shes a beauty, I hope you find somewhere safe and comfortable for her!

Good news - I have found a nice place. :) Only $100 a month for a nice 20 acre pasture with all board fence. :) There are only 3 other horses living full-time in the pasture, so there is plenty of great grazing and very little exposed dirt/sand. There is a dressage arena and jumping ring, though my eventing days are over, I might be re-inspired. hehe Maybe people will let me school their horses. :)

Thanks.
I don't have a trailer either.
Luckily my trainer has a trailer and will be moving her for me.
