This was forwarded to me from one of my best customers..Looks like we are making headway with the fight for the USPS to allow us to send tarantulas in the mail.. Lets keep an eye on the "Federal Register"( i assume it's a newspaper) and make our responses count when they post it. Please continue to be vigilant and sent this letter to all the people you can and write to senator Saxby Chambliss .. and if there is a link or something we can follow that would be great.. I cant seem to find it..thanks,
Paul Becker

POSTAL SERVICE RESPONSE”
Hey guess what? I got a letter in the mail Friday from Senator Saxby Chambliss.
Here is what is said:
Dear Ms. XXXXXXXX,
Enclosed is a copy of the response I received from the United States Postal Service on your behalf. I hope that you will find this helpful. Thanks again for bringing this issue to my attention. I hope that you will keep in touch.
Very Truly Yours,
Saxby Chambliss

...And the enclosed letter from the USPS read:
Dear Senator Chambliss,
This is in response to your February 3 letter on behalf of several constituents, regarding the shipping of tarantulas.
Thank you for sharing your constituents' comments requesting that the US Postal Service allow the shipping of tarantulas for research and pet trade. In response to your inquiry, we contacted Postal Service Headquarters Mailing Standards officials, who advised that this matter is currently being reviewed. However, no decision has been made. Therefore, I am taking the liberty of sharing your constituents' correspondence with that office.
If the Postal Service proposes a change to its standards to allow the shipping of tarantulas, a notice will be published in the Federal Register for public comments.
Thank you for writing. Please let me know if I can assist you with other postal issues.
Sincerely,
Manager, Government Relations.

I appreciate that you've taken the time to share this correspondence. I'm not holding out any real hope, but at least it's looking positive.

An idea

i think that aslong as alot of hobbyist's in the US, write letters after letters, Get as many people as possible to do this... They may come up posotive and allow shipping of any animal, As long as they relise that they would lose alot of custom if they banned shipping of T's and so on,

Im gessing here (as i only live in the UK and not sure on your postal rules and regs) that if enough people push this case forward to allow shipping.... then really what choice do they have.....

Even if you place an online patition for this on here.. Get as many hobbyist's to "Copy and Paste" the patition, Fill it in, then post it back on the page .... print them of or send Via "EMAIL" bang done, They get alot of "OI GITS LET US SHIP" they from what im thinking, wouldnt have any other choice, but to allow it... Hell ill even fill it in to help you guys in the US..

Think about it,,, it might work :p

Well that would be the next push I think ;) It mostly concentrated on tarantulas cause that was far more important for our current hobby. Baby steps....
Yeah, well I'll say it again and again, If they won't ship scorps than I can't be in the hobby. $40 is pretty fricken expensive for me, that's have my damn paycheck. USP and Fedex charges a arm and a leg. Its more important for your hobby but not mine.

Edit: There are people that could not give a rats ass whether they ship scorps but I sure do and I know a few people on here that do too.

Thanks for shareing Paul!

Personally I'm considering not shipping USPS regardless. They are expensive for service that is not guaranteed and frankly unreliable.
Has anyone thought of UPS 2nd day or the FedEx equivalent? Properly packed
a T should have no problems for an extra day. I've seen this in shipping USPS Express where is it seems most places in the country are 2 day anyway.

I've checked the prices on UPS and they are the same or below USPS, and I know from experience UPS is MUCH more reliable than the postal service.

Well the problem is those services can kick you off too right now. I was told not too use UPS anymore by upper management cause they found out what I was shipping. What we are trying to do is get a way we can legally ship our T's and not break any rules too. Also some would argue about UPS being better everyone has thier preferred shipping service. I have used all 3 pretty extensively to ship at one time or another and they all have had thier issues.

You did not respond to my question. HOW AM I GOING TO SHIP SCORPIONS? Scorpions interest me more than T's do. However I may also get into T's but my love and passion is for SCORPIONS and with all the emphasis being placed on just T's I am starting to wonder if my passion will be extinct. I'm not against T's and I have nothing against people who love them more than Scorps. I like T's to some extent too. I love my Scorpions and am fearful and scared that there will soon be NO way for me to get them.

Right now you can't and I am not saying that scorpions are not important...this is not an arguement thread and if you really care about that you should do the same thing...start a movement for those also. We can not encompas everything in one move or we will not be given anything. I am sure the next person could ask why I did not include venemous snakes, walking sticks, beetles and many others in the letter. There are deadly scorpions and there are not deadly tarantulas so as a first step they are easier and a larger hobby that affects more people.

Is it my understanding that nobody ships them anymore too?
