This was forwarded to me from one of my best customers..Looks like we are making headway with the fight for the USPS to allow us to send tarantulas in the mail.. Lets keep an eye on the "Federal Register"( i assume it's a newspaper) and make our responses count when they post it. Please continue to be vigilant and sent this letter to all the people you can and write to senator Saxby Chambliss .. and if there is a link or something we can follow that would be great.. I cant seem to find it..thanks,
Paul Becker
POSTAL SERVICE RESPONSE”
Hey guess what? I got a letter in the mail Friday from Senator Saxby Chambliss.
Here is what is said:
Dear Ms. XXXXXXXX,
Enclosed is a copy of the response I received from the United States Postal Service on your behalf. I hope that you will find this helpful. Thanks again for bringing this issue to my attention. I hope that you will keep in touch.
Very Truly Yours,
Saxby Chambliss
...And the enclosed letter from the USPS read:
Dear Senator Chambliss,
This is in response to your February 3 letter on behalf of several constituents, regarding the shipping of tarantulas.
Thank you for sharing your constituents' comments requesting that the US Postal Service allow the shipping of tarantulas for research and pet trade. In response to your inquiry, we contacted Postal Service Headquarters Mailing Standards officials, who advised that this matter is currently being reviewed. However, no decision has been made. Therefore, I am taking the liberty of sharing your constituents' correspondence with that office.
If the Postal Service proposes a change to its standards to allow the shipping of tarantulas, a notice will be published in the Federal Register for public comments.
Thank you for writing. Please let me know if I can assist you with other postal issues.
Sincerely,
Manager, Government Relations.
