My neighbors found this little guy running frantically around in the road!! It has a few wounds on it that I cleaned and put antibiotics on.

I have no idea if its a turtle (box or what) or tortoise.. I am NOT wise in the ways of that kind of thing.. It looks tortoisey to me.... SO Im inlisting your help cuz I know all of you are so much wiser than I.:D

I don't know a lot about tortoises. I've had a few but not the desert sp mentioned. It looks like the Russian torts I see in the pet shops. Esp underneath. But I don't know. Have you tried to get more info?

It might be, but I don't think so. The desert tort. on top of its carapace has yellow rings. Go to www.desertusa.com
I'm in AZ.

Actually, now that you mention it, Galapoheros, it does look a lot like a Russian. I don't know, I'm no good at identifying.

Well congrats on the Russian tort, if that's what it is. I've got a little tort book and it's the author's favorite tortoise.

As I understood it this tortoise was found in the wild. Russian tortoise is not found in Utah ;)
Sure it can be a loose pet but I would guess its as dirty juvenile desert tortoise.

Sticking with my guess and will also speculate that it's a male. A lost tortoise, esp when I look at the background neighborhood. It sounds like it was found in the neighborhood. Pet herps get out a lot here in the US. It happened to me with a Sulcata:wall: . The guy down the street gave it to someone else:mad: . I should have called the police. I learned a lesson. Anyway, just guessing. I've found a few loose exotics too. OldHag, a local pet store person would let you know for sure, if you still have it.

My neighbors actually have it. They come to me whenever they find something, and for somereason, they find a lot of things. I end up getting them when their kids are done with them :D
It was found in Northern Utah in the middle of a city road. I have no clue... and the pet stores around here are probably more clueless than I am. I might have to borrow it and take it to SLC where there are more knowledgeable petshop owners.
Thanks for all the help!!!
