turtle id?

[spider pest]

found this little bugger in south nj today. shell is about 1 3/4" from front to back, a little under 2" across. any ideas?

Does it have a red stripe behind the eyes? If so, possibly Trachemys scripta elegans(red eared slider). If not, I vote Trachemys scripta scripta. But...check this out: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/ensp/pdf/turtles.pdf

too late to check...i figured he'll be happier lakeside, and i'll be happier not buying a tank, filter, etc, so i took him back to the spot.
