No not human females (well, that too...) I mean t's!

So far this summer i've had the following unsexed t's reveal their genders:

MM N chromatus (huge)
MM A geniculata (ok, I knew he was male already but still, he hooked out)
MM P murinus (which is ok cuz he has an in-house gf)
MM A avicularia (molted yesterday)
juvie M L parahybana
juvie male B albopilosum

Not a one single confirmed female. A few unsexed sling molts... *sigh*

Is it something in the water?

It sucks. I just found out my first T is a male...I was quite upset. I guess you should start buying confirmed females. Granted they can be a bit more expensive... :) I stay away from unsexed Ts unless I'm buying more than one.

Bah, don't get me wrong, I still like seeing them grow. It's the endless pacing and slow lingering death that bothers me. All but 2 of those were bought as slings and the rest were wc subadults that i picked up for a steal. I guess you get what you pay for...

The avic (you may remember) was the one i picked up at havre de grace that was being kept (literally) on soupy mud. I just couldn't leave it there like that. If I see more like that this weekend i will resist the urge... :embarrassed:

Yeah, I can't stand the slow, lingering death either. It tore me up when my MM B. smithi died. I could tell he was going downhill and there wasn't anything I could do for him.

Our mutual friend had counseled me on not buying out of pity--as you might remember I lost 2 because I felt sorry for them and thought I was saving them because they were being kept on the soupy mud and both died within 2 weeks. I learned my lesson.

My big girl just molted a couple weeks ago and needs a boyfriend too! Can she get in line?

Actually, we're also in CA (southern CA). Maybe we could plan a double date for your boy!!

OK, THIS is what a female looks like.

Praise the pagan Arachnogods! I just sexed this girl via exuvium last night. Yay! She molted about 2 weeks ago but i'd been putting off examining the exuvium for no particlar reason. I had to rehydrate it in an ICU type container which is the best method i've seen for getting brittle molts pliable again.

A few weeks before the molt saying hello in her typical fashion.

This is last night (12 days post molt) mere seconds after missing my finger by about 1/8". This girl is feisty and I mean feisty. I'd say i'm much more likely to get tagged by her than any haplo or OBT. She's all "Never Retreat, Never Surrender!" (name that flick) Having just reminded me of how quick she is to bite, she's pictured here turning to give me a shot of hair before ambling confidently back to her burrow.

Well, 1/8 female P. Chordatus and 1/5 female L. Parahybana. Those are the worst cases I've had so far.

But I'm pretty lucky with everything else ;)

Oh I feel your pain, most of last year it was male after male, but fortunately several have gone on to help produce sacs. But its always great to have a confirmed female you raised.

I have started buying slings in packs of 5 to get females, or just buy outright confirmed ladies.

Hang tough, your luck will change.
