haha, well i was at walmart picking up some stuff and i notced in the fish section were "Triassic Triops" http://www.triops.com
a pack was 3$ so i said what the heck. it comes with eggs food and instructions. there guaranteed to hatch and grow for 20-90 days and can get up to 2in w/proper care. i noticed it said spring water, NO tapwater. is bottled water basicily spring water? anyway ill see what happens with these prehistoric creatures. im guessing it will eather be really cool and work, or really gay. well we will see....

btw i think there classified as crustaceans but dont really know much about them

I got 6 of mine to 2" but I changed their water with tap (which I thought was purified) and they died within 8 hours :wall:

They are tadpole shrimp "Triops cancriformis " is their scientific name, their first specimens were W/C and they now breed them in lab condidtions, they have bred out the Mottled Colour form (spotted) as inbreeding made unicolour triops the tan or pink comes about from what they receive in their diets, if they prefer to eat the clam shrimp or other creatures that they come with, they tend to be a pinkier colour.

Triops, Tadpole Shrimp, Shield Shrimp are all common names of animals from the scientific Order Notostraca of the Class Branchiopoda. The single family Triopsidae contains 2 genus- Triops and Lepidurus.

I have found that color is determined by living conditions. The ones I raise on dirt have the mottled (spotted) coloration, and the ones i raise on sand or gravel are more solid colored. Those yellow and orange colored ones started out looking spotted on dirt, then i moved them to a sand/gravel tank after about 1-2 weeks and they changed colors. I believe feeding them carrots may have had something to do with it too.
