Good day,

Since I don't have much else to do now during the days I have started building alot of new tanks. This is my latest one:

I have almost unlimited acces to free glass so if anyone has any homemade tanks I would sure love to see them for inspiration and new ideas.

One more thing, does anyone know how to effectivly clean glass from silicone smudges? I use a razor now but perhaps there is something else that you can use? It can't be anything toxic though... I have tried alcohol with poor results.

Have a nice weekend!

Each side is about 25 cm long a the deapth is about 13 cm. The genic that lives there is about the size of a 4-5 cm legspan.

(edited the picture so you can see better)

The best way is to clean it before it dryies ... I remove the silicone leftovers from corners by using V-fold small piece of paper. Then if there is still some silicone you can wash it with a towel or rag using pure alcohol.

Fince - Nice tanks! Where did you get that curved glass? Is it expensive?
Raqua - Thank you for the tips!

My friend is a glazier expert, he has a small factory. There made my terrariums. He make the glassflexion with a hightemperatured( 2000C)compactor. This is very simply curve what he applied at these terrariums. They can to make a fantastic works with the glass (wawes, your face visualise as an emboss from the glass...etc) .

It's usualy expensive method, but example a larger one(first picture) he made to me for a laughable price (about 22$).-I think, according to your earnings, this price is more laughable :)

Kyle - Thank you!
You could try to go to a place where they sell used building material and see if you can't get some cheap windows or glass. The glass should be atleast 4 mm thick. Often you can get scrap pieces pretty cheap at a glassworker as well.

Are those lightbulbs INSIDE those tanks? :? :? :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

If they are thats a really bad thing. it will cause the tanks to dry out VERY quickly, not to mention if the tarantula climbs the glass and touches it. they will get burned very badly.

I think they are handles to open the door.

I always let the silicone dry and remove it with a sharp razor, less messy. And you dont risk the glass panes to drift apart.

I think, this is misbelief. My all terrariums have in light/heat fairly long ago, but they have never been burning my spiders. I use from 15 to 25w lightbulbs (not 1000w of course :) ). These bulbs are can't run hot and the spiders has very sensitive thermoreceptors, they never touch these lightbulbs....

Very nice :)
How do you cut the glas? and do you have any tips on how to get the 90* corners right?

If you are intrested in dart frogs I know where you can find perfect blueprints for a good frog tank..

Have you done anything else? I think that i see something else there on the left side ;)

Bearo - Thank you :)

I made the outer walls first using three same size pieces and then glued them together. Then I just layed the back piece over the triangle and drew lines so I knew where to cut.

I use a simple glasscutter with wood handle and changable cutting wheels. (I tried the sort they have on Biltema for 19 SEK and they don't work at all, this cost me about 60 SEK) Just don't forget to dip the tip in some lubrication like sewing-machine oil.

I have done a few tanks before but nothing really I want to show off :D

The thing you see to the right is a tube I bougt at a outletstore holding a fake orchid, perfect for small aboreals.

Hey I have an idea! Put that triangle upside down and you have an arboreal tank!
(So e.g. you'll have 3 terrestrials and 2 arboreals like so)
___

""""""""

The only thing I have to say against is the wire mesh. Otherwise, great looking tank!
