Been doing a bit of work this morning on the bubble fountain i asked about the other day and here are the results. What do you guys think. Is this an ok enclosure, size and depth wise to house a red trapdoor spider. Actual dimensions are 17 inches tall and 4 inches diameter. Planning on putting in about 12 inches of peat. Would this be a suitable substrate. Obviously I would add leaves at the top to make the door from. Thanks for the help.

Nice! Why not have a small amount of peat and a tree branch for it to climb?

A trapdoor spider isn't likley to appreciate climbing branches :)

that be great for a black widow , but I think a trapdoor spyder would want more room to wonder around on the ground ., To pick a sweet place to lay its trap :)

Hi DNK,

That would be ideal. Trapdoors dont need much space in terms of area, just depth, so that enclosure would suit it nicely. i'd be tempted to fill up even more than 12" with dirt, you only need to leave a couple of inches at the top. once the trapdor has made it's burrow, it's not going to move. Post some more pics when its all set up :)

Cheers,
