Finished my new site article, and oddly enough, the longest one I've done about insects. It's in two parts:

http://bogleech.com/bio-beetles.html
http://bogleech.com/bio-beetles2.html

I chose beetles based on unorthodox habits or lifestyles, rather than appearances, sizes or "records," so I don't include the world's largest or smallest like other sites would. Size isn't everything!

Let me know any that are weirder than my picks - I could replace one or two here if something worthier came up.

That was great! Now I know what the "water penny" beetles are. I found some in a spring-fed creek a couple of years ago and had never seen them before.

i love tiger beetles... every time I'd see one I'd WANT to try to catch it, but then I'd see those jaws and how fast they moved and would think twice.

I'd still love to catch one someday, we always had at least one hanging out on the bricks on our back porch at the old house.

This brings me back to the afternoon I'd spent by the lake last fall, mesmerized by the whirligigs and the way they'd move to and away from shore as a chaotic unit. :)

& LOL for "+1 Excremental Armor" {D

I've hunted for tiger beetle larvae throughout my life and have yet to see one...though I have seen mating adult pairs. Maybe if I caught a pair and kept them in a nice sandy enclosure I'd get some larvae? :D
