Tong Substitutions

Hi guys, so my T is still just a juvie so I'm still using smaller tweezers but when she's grown, I know many T owners use long steel tongs. Does anyone know of some good substitutes? I wouldn't mind saving some pennies as I'm a bit on the cheap side. I'm pretty sure I've seen a picture on here of what I thought looked like someone using chopsticks to substitute. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? I know it would have to be long enough as she is a G. pulchripes.

Edit:
Just an idea, we have quite a few trees in our yard which my family planted like 20 years ago (we don't spray anything in our yard, although I think the neighbors do) and I make things out of the limbs pretty often. Would it be an okay idea to make my own tongs you think? If so, what dimensions do you recommend?

I would just buy a proper set of feeding tongs. The feeders are quite quick and without good tongs, difficult to keep ahold of.

Besides with wood and being outside, you don't know what those trees have been sprayed with.

Some people do like bamboo tongs over steel ones however.

Stick to the tongs, feeders are annoying and are capable of slipping out. Steel tongs are best, plus they are not that expensive. I bought mine for I believe $9.

My pair of tongs was like $13 but I’m sure you can find it for less as my dollar is a tad weaker than yours. It’s money you only spend once. Finding a workaround isn’t worth that tiny bit of money to me.

Agree with those above, using wood from outside is too risky because you don’t know what it’s come in contact with. You could try chopsticks but you’d need to be very proficient with them haha

I would save for the tongs if I were you, they are not very expensive. Seen as your T is still a juvie you still have time to save for the longer ones =)

I bought giant tweezers instead of proper feeding tongs.

Edit: They were $8.90 including shipping, so not too expensive.

You can find these things ridiculously cheap on Ebay, and you're not in a rush so a month or two of shipping shouldn't be an issue for you.

We tried bamboo tongs and they couldn't keep a hold on wiggly feeder roaches.

Good metal tongs are pretty essential, and really cheap. We got ours for 9$ at Petco.

If you can afford a tarantula, you can afford tongs. It’s just a matter of priorities.

Not arguing with that as all I said was I'm cheap. I'll probably end up buying them like everyone's been suggesting anyway though. Made some tiny tongs when she was a sling out of two little plastic spoons, some duct tape to hold them together and a tooth pic to make the space between them. Didn't know if other people had made the big version of something like this or had other ideas for substitutes is all.

I went through a lot of websites and ideas of ways to find an inexpensive sling. Found the least expensive one I could of this species. I went cheap there too.

$1.76 on ebay. In the T hobby you have no need to go to a pet store. You can buy everything somewhere else.

Wow! You’re actually more innovative than cheap. The military calls that field expedience.

Haha, that's really nice of you to say :embarrassed:. Most people think I'm a pack rat as I hold onto a lot of stuff in case it comes in handy later.
