Just got a Tokay gecko and that came along with a 65g reptarium. Only thing is a person on another site said reptariums are not good for Tokay but forgot to state why.

I don't have problem acquiring tanks as I already keep alot of fishes myself but just wondering how come reptariums are bad besides can't use heatlamps and maybe harder for Tokay to climb on.

Thanks in advance.

First off congrats on your new addition..

The reason is Tokays need humdity. And with the style of cage it's in now provides to much air flow when I had tokays this is the set-up I used

20gal high tank with a piece of plexiglass as a lid with about 20 half inch air holes drilled in it the substrate was cypress mulch I had a few large fake plants in there so they had a place to hide and rest during the day,A 75w basking bulb to provide heat and a 60w black lite for ngiht time heat,A large water bowl and thats was it....And mist them every other day to give them extra moisture and also a water source cause if it is a W/C tokay it might not know how to drink for a water dish .

I hope this helps and good luck

Enjoy and watch out they bite so hard...lol

^ Exactly tokays are pretty hardy and make great pets, but really really enjoy humidity. Good luck, Tokays are my favorite geckos ~ Rex
