Hey there, so I'm relatively new only less than a year at this. My Mexican Black Velvet was my second sling to get and it has been one of my favorites. Info on him seems to be scarce so I'm probably worried for nothing. He hasn't eaten since end of november and molted about 2 months prior to that. I keep his enclosure typically dry with always full water dish and he's been plump as hell. Anyone know if this species just fasts or has extra long premolt as slings? Maybe he needs wetter substrate even tho I haven't found someone suggesting otherwise. Just need advice :(

Whoa, that thing is plenty full. It won't need to eat again until after it molts next. T's don't need to eat on any kind of regular schedule - once they eat enough to meet their needs for a given molt cycle, they'll be fine not eating until after they molt. Just make sure there's water available for it to drink and be patient. As for the substrate, just wet the corner where the water dish is when you fill up the dish so the T has a place to go if it wants moist substrate.

Ahh alright I understand, I know I definitely was overfeeding at first since it was basically my first one. As long as he is happy then that is good to know!!

A plump tarantula doesn’t need to eat its as simple as that! You want to feed slower than you have moving forward so that it doesn’t fast as long as it has.
