My Phidippus Audax is currently brooding over a clutch of eggs which she laid last night. If these turn out to be fertile I understand she can guard these until they hatch around 2 weeks from now. How do I feed and give her water while she is in her brooding hut? I do have access to the top of entrance should i just drop a sleeping fly into the top of her house in a few days?

I'm guessing that as long as her abdomen doesn't look an unhealthy small size, I'm guessing she'll be fine if you let her be for now. When you spot her outside, that would be a good time to feed and water her.

Congratulations on the egg sac :)!

Thanks! So she should be fine unless she comes out of the nest on her own? Ill keep placing water droplets nearby and misting lightly. Thanks again!

Even if she doesn't come out, I'm guessing she'll be okay. I would also say to keep it a bit dryer in there while the egg sac is developing to help keep it from rotting. Just a couple drops near it should be okay IME.

What I did is leaving her alone until she emerges and feed her~ They can endure the whole brooding period without food just fine!
I also know of a breeder of Phidippus jumpers in Hong Kong that prefers to pull the sac from the female and hatch them him self.
also~ @WildSpider, a bit off topic, is that a Philodromidae running crab spider in your avatar? I found a similar one in my room one day.

Yeah :D! I believed it to be a Philodromus dispar. It's sitting in a jar on one of my textbooks. I love these guys. We have hundreds of them under one of our conifers. Were you able to capture yours? They're fast little critters.

Thank you! I honestly didn't realize what a haven for bold jumpers my house and yard is. I'm currently feeding another skinny little guy I found in my garage and then right outback I see another small 3rd or 4th instar hunting flies on my trash can. Once I fatten up this guy I found in my garage I'm going to let him go out back and hopefully he sticks around.

Pics of the new guy I found in my garage now munching on a big blue bottle I helped him with. His abdomen is tiny probably not alot of prey in there. Also not really sure if its a male too small to be sure but im just calling him a he for now. This is now my 3rd bold jumper ive found this month 4th including the one currently hunting the trash can.
