One of the easiest spiders to keep. Sand and a piece of cork bark in their enclosure and done. They can't climb smooth surfaces. It's the African Hexophthalma hahni (ex Sicarius hahni) that has the really potent venom. Not that you'd want a bite off them anyway. But they're probably the least defensive spider there is so you'd have to literally pick one up and hurt one to get a bite.

Fantastic spiders. Love mine.

Everything that @basin79 posted is absolute truth. I would add however, this is one of those species that you MUST seek the green light from the authorities in your home. As stated, they are probably one of the easiest, and least defensive spiders to keep. However, you don’t want to get one on the “down low”, then when asked what it is, have to surprise the powers that be.

After they reach adulthood, is it just the pedipalps or are there other differences?
Males are a bit darker, more leggy and a bit larger than females. The best way to sex them is by examining the pedipalps as always.

From my relatively short time keeping them, I would recommend mixing some soil in with the sand to better mimic their natural habitat. My individual kept this way instead of in the traditional pure sand setup has been more active than my others and has molted already.

I was thinking of getting one, did you ever mist them in case they molt or nah?
