I just got a Chilean rose today. i read the thread from Mark about rosie care. any suggestions other than that. mine seems to be okay in the handling department. he has been out for about an hour just sitting on my lap. i cant seem to find much about identifying sex or age though. been looking all day.

yep this is me. he has been clinging to the terrarium since i got home and i just checked out a website on how to sex a t. it is definetly a male. i was really excited to get him home, so was my wife actually. i have been fascinated by T's since i was a kid so this is awesome for me. i just want to make sure i am giving the best possible care. i am ready to get another T. a different species i think. any suggestions?

Yea he's got a good home...just keep him dry feed weekly. As far as other low maintenance Ts...go with one of the following:

Pretty much any of the Brachypelma sp. will do such as:
B. smithi - Mexican Redknee (very beautiful btw)
B. albopilosum - Curly Hair (very fuzzy and robust)

Pink Zebra Beauties ( E. campestratus ) are also pretty easy
Stripe Knees (A. seemani) are fairly easy (can be skittish)

If you want a nice arboreal get a pinktoe (A. avicularia)

There are caresheets all over the place that provide you with lots of useful information...just look around and I'm sure you'll find things...if not, simply ask here :D

I'd suggest getting a copy of "Tarantula's and Other Arachnids" by Sam Marshall. Its a cheap buy and a great book to get you started and to have handy. If you decide to increase your collection move on to "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide" by Stanley and Marguerite Shultz.

mdfic,
Welcome to the hobby. You can get good info from the boards here. And read what ever you can find, and not just about your T. They are fascinating creatures. Good luck and again welcome aboard.
