Cool. I have tons that just wander into my garden because I fill it with rotting wood. It was an attempt to garden and start a grub worm farm but I still can’t find grubs.
My method is placing stones the whole way around my compost bin. The bin is one of those that is just an open topped tube of heavy perforated plastic and is a magnet for isopods. I just collected about 30 of various colors today. I am refreshing my cultures that are from locally collected stock. I'm working on isolating color types of armadillidium vulgare - it always amazes me the different colors that are to be found locally.
I tried this just to see what would happen a while ago with just some driftwood. No isopods. But if you need about 4-5 thousand carpenter ants, I got you.
My neighbor has a rock that sits in the topsoil (jointly managed yard). I just flip it over and put them in my small habitat, simple as. Not rare by any means.. Just look for rocks that sit in moderately damp soil or some logs. O. Asellus and forest isopods will be harder to find but in the same general areas
