My lobster roaches weren't propagating nearly as much as I'd like. I was using wetted dog food (treats, actually but what's the difference?) for water.

I switched to bits of friut, and added fish flakes. Almost immediately, there was a noticable boom that hadn't been there before. First instar roaches. There were only two additional females that had moulted out between this switch, so it's not a factor in the population explosion.

Earlier this week, I added rotted wood. Now, I've seen at least one new batch of nymphs per DAY. I've also noticed that the gravid females crowd out the non gravid females and males to get at the rotted wood.

Anyone else have similar observations?

I dont recommend fish flakes as many contain phosphorous, and other unnatural materials. I dont find most of them to be a sufficient source of protien or calcium either.

I feed mine a mix of organic wheat bran, wheat flower, find ground corn meal, oatmeal, spirulina powder and flakes, and fine ground organic dog food. For veggies (and moisture) they get kale, zuccini, carrots, squash, sweet potato, apples, oranges, blueberries, and bananas. I also make them agar gel, with organic blueberry or pomegranite juice and bits of banana. I put spirulina powder in the agar gel as well. In my larger colonies, I also provide a cuttle bone for calcium, which seems to ease wing eating.

It gets expensive, but all 17 of my colonies are booming.

Oh my god Jodi. That made me laugh so hard I cried. I swear, this deserves the most brilliant reply of the year award.

I know I feed my roaches very very well, definatly better than I feed myself. I enjoy creating their menus for the week. I have three tupperware containers that I use. One for each day they get fed. It gets crazy, when I wont let my mom eat the organic vegatables, because they are too expensive and I need them for my roaches.

LOL@organic

all veggies are organic lol just as all meat is organic. That is a bogus term for them to use to say pesticide ect. free. Organic means that it is or once was alive. Even crude oil could be said to be organic lol I think its just a way to overcharge for inferior products
