I just have the one: an 11" A. mavortium diaboli. Voracious killers, mine gets a couple of hissers a week(unless he starts to look fat). He likes to smash them back and forth against his "boulder" and the side of the tank. Almost never comes out of hiding(unless to let you know that he wants a snack).

Ariel- purty easy care, IME. A tank/sterilite at least 2x as long as the beast, lots of substrate(I use 6"). A water dish that they can soak in that is longer than they are. Mine will not use hides, but instead tunnels near the rock and/or water dish. Isopods clean up after him. No heat source. The only time I worry is when temps. get above 80F in the house, then I just add a few ice cubes in the morn/evening and make sure the sub is moist.

I always wanted to get into salamanders but I figured they'd be horribly difficult to care for. I guess my assumptions were wrong, lol... I was thinking Hellbender hard. Then again not much info on caring for those out there either....

Hey pouched-

For the most part with the terrestrials the biggest concerns are keeping things moist & cool. Deep sub and a dark corner in a climate controlled house will keep the worries at bay. There are exceptions, of course, and breeding is a whole 'nother ball of wax.

Care

The story: Well I raised these guys from a pond that I knew they were going to die cause farmers were spraying the fields with pesticides and what other toxic junk they poison there lands with. So I took them, and raised them from tadpoles. By taking water from another pond and placing them in that water, knowing that there were micro-aquatic insects they can eat. Once they started getting larger at least 3 - 4 inches which takes approx of a months they can start eating Pin-head crickets! Hard to believe, but yes they will eat anything at this stage cause there growing up. Once there around 5 to 6 inches I tilt the tank on one side and they started coming out and losing there gills and formed into a ground dwelling eating machine!

For Care: Tiger Salamanders are really easy to care for, for substrate i use peat moss just make sure its free from any chemicals, another good choice are the Bricks Of Dirt you get at the pet stores. ALWAYS ALWAYS have a small container of CHLORINE FREE WATER in the cage all the time! many people forget to do this. For Food they will eat anything, large crickets are perfect for them. Be warned they have been known to choke to death by eating items that are larger then themselves. {D

And if you guys really want I can do a Video for the care on the Sal's.

And thanks moose for posting it !

They are really cute Jeremy!!!! I love salamanders, I used to play with them all of the time when I was little, I would find them in the window openings of the house I grew up in. I don't know what kind they were but they were black with yellow spots.
Nice video!!!
