Very nice snakes! For some reason they are not so common over here.

I have always loved Spilotes - although in the old days they came in the US in far too great of numbers and were typically in very rough shape. It's nice that there are some babies out there now. A customer of mine just got a nice pair of babies, as well as a very clean pair of adult imports. They are awesome display animals and with a little effort can calm down quite a bit despite their reputation for nervousness and defensiveness. Michael

Nope. They are as non venomous as corn snakes are. :)

thanks, everyone. they are unrelated and cbb. and they aren't REAL common in the US, but not rare.

and the yearling is pretty calm, and the little female is getting there.

I think I remember reading that they were actually rear-fanged and mildly venomous, like the hognose. I could be wrong, though.

They are not rear fanged but can be considered venomous since Dr Brian Greg Fry's studies which found 3FT (3 finger toxins) in most Asian elaphe, including Beauty snakes and Radiated ratsnakes.

temperment... the yearling male is completely docile.

the little female is real defensive of her enclosure, but once out of it she is good.

Yeah, according to Fry, just about every colubrid is "venomous" lol. ;)
