I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this genus of spiders such as their temperament and care. They look attractive on camera but I can't find information on them anywhere.

Specifically I'm interested in Thrigmopoeus truculentus.

Thanks!

One of my favorites. They eat and web a lot. I had one that unfortunately turned out to be male, I hope to get more some day.

Do they like it wet, dry, or somewhere in between? Also, are they particularly psycho or fast?

I'm going to be buying a 3/4" sling if I finally decide to get one so I would also like to know how fast they grow.

Do they hang out where they can be seen or do they tend to hide?

They like a damp, but not wet environment with a pronounced wet period once a year. They like to adapt an existing hideaway, which they will dig out and web entirely. They are not psycho, but skittish and fast, and are definitely not handleable. They are medium fast growers, that takes some years to mature. T. truculentus become very large - well over 20 cm. in leg span.

Regards
Søren

I'm not a big handler so that's okay. I was just wondering if they were inclined to run or to nibble. So, for the time being I will consider their personality to be pretty much like Psalmopoeus species.

Who am I kidding. I already have Cyrtophylis portoricae sling. She's sweet now but I can't help feeling like I'm sitting on a time bomb that's primed to go off... any decade now. :p

This species is looking more and more appealing to me. I have always wanted a velvety chocolate colored spider. I was planning on a T. blondi or an H. gigas but neither of them really fit the bill quite right. I think I have found my fix!

Aren't Thrigmopoeus terrestrial? They remind me in appearance of Ephebopus actually w/ their spatulate toesies. If that's the case you definitely don't want to set it up like a psalmopoeus...

Maybe more like a pamphobeteus or a L parahybana?

Oh no. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant to say that they have the temperment of psalmos in that they just get out of your way while you work and absolutely hate to leave their nests. Also to say that if they are somehow riled enough to leave their nest, watch out.
