So... me as a beginner keeper I'm watching lots of husbandry videos for my T. Vagans sling, I found the ones from The Tarantula Collective very simple to understand and helpful. Do you guys have any thoughts on Richard´s husbandry style?

I got most of my information from The Tarantula Collective and Tom Moran. I have had no issues with my T's following their guidance.

I feel richard as a whole has some decent husbandry advice. Don't much like him getting the T's out on the desk for photos, but it's what he's into; not the greatest spider crime ever.

The only thing ive seen him do which really disappointed me was when he paired his T. Vagans and the male got eaten because he was negligent and fussing with the cameras instead of refereeing the pairing properly. But he at least admitted that.

I love Tom Moran, can't knock the guy at all. Loves his spoods, isn't in it for anything other than the husbandry.

(side note) : Burn exotics lair to the ground. I hate that guy, total idiot and has undoubtedly got many T's killed because of his stupidity and hunger for exposure.

His husbandry looks ok, but I don't really follow him after the poecilotheria thing.

Tom Moran is easily one of the best sources, with mikebasictarantula.com for anything Tom can't cover.

Point to Richard though, if you follow his husbandry you should be ok. He does seem like a good keeper.

There are standards to simple husbandry in terms of tarantula care. But as for care in general, every keeper has there own individual care and ways, which can very from one keeper to the next. As long as any keeper understands the care for the said species, then it should work out in the end.

I've obviously missed something, as I don't watch many of his videos. Did something happen with a pokie?

Richards husbandry tips are fine. His handling and feeding style is something I don’t agree with.

I'd personally see him more as a 'first look'. I think he easily creates some of the highest quality T videos - they're a pleasure to watch, while lots of others really suffer from bad quality on both video and sound.
So its great to just chill and watch his videos to orientate what species you'd be interested in (next). A big part of this is him getting good shots of the Ts (as most choose visually at first), something people here don't like - but I think they gotta understand that this guy's main job is making these videos. Apart from straight up hurting the Ts, his priority is the video, not preventing a bit of stress for the T.
You think David Attenborough never stressed out an animal to show it in a documentary?
On top of that he generally is quite clear about that handling is not advised, nor are the lights he uses for filming etc etc. I think you've got to be pretty dense if your take-away from his videos is to take over the things he does for the video rather than what he actually says you should do.

I've yet to really catch him out on any bad info though, but I would still advise to look into more sources once you've got your eye on a specific species.
Not just for care - but also for things like temperament etc. as this info can often differ as per people's personal experiences.

As mentioned here Tom Moran is a very good 2nd source of info and the videos are... acceptable quality.
Also been liking Dave's Little Beasties lately, as he's got a bit more of a laid back approach to things what a lot of people here seem to worry about a lot. Again, up to you what you decide to listen to

#1 source should always be here, however. Keep that in the front of your mind.

Well, his videos are not my only source, I watch a ton of T-related YouTubers, such as Tom Moran, Tarantula Kat, etc. But I also read every T. Vagans care sheet I found so I don't make my Poecilotheria mistake again. My main source is my best friend who is an experienced new world keeper, my second you guys, and this forum :)

BTW: I hate Exotics Liar. He is very negligent and sometimes cruel to his many animals...
He isn't a serious creator, his videos are for people that aren't in the hobby and just like to watch some morbid stuff involving exotic pets.

Richard's husbandry is fine, it gives a new keeper the basics. While I do appreciate the video quality, I really wish he'd stop taking the Ts out for photo shoots. Tom Moran is arguably the best T Youtuber and Dave's Little Beasties, though often controversial in some aspects, gives us alternative methods which also seems to work. As Poonjab mentioned, this forum is where all interested parties should look into first. With almost 20 years of threads, this place is the absolute goldmine for a new keeper. It's just a matter of using the search function and the answers are found almost immediately.

Tom explains the original situation best:https://open.spotify.com/episode/5o...i=ASrvja-GQVOfxFJ7_W9APg&utm_source=copy-link

Dealer decides to label all his Pokies as hobby form and sell them, even though a couple were illegal to sell over state lines.

Richard has the dealer in question on his show to give "his side of the story", which turns into the dealer claiming it was all a joke while Richard talks about "cancel culture" and the "tarantula mafia". It was a bit of a Trainwreck, but to Richards credit I don't think he is very proud of the episode based on the intro he gives it. I think he really expected the dealer to give some important context for what he did.

He can sell himself well, whether he actually has a clue is an open question. He has no new information, but just gathers facts that are already known.
Too unnatural for me personally, much show. The keeping and feeding tips are also standard and have been known for a long time and are mostly identical for all species. "Hello my name is R., I feed my slings once or twice a week ... blablabla ..."
I do not need that!

Not bad, though he seems to focus more on the beginner side of the hobby, so experienced keepers may not get as much out of the care videos.

I also like Tom Moran. That's the first channel I search for setup examples when I get out of my experience zone. I also search threads here and ask questions if I want reassurance.

I think that some of his videos are decent, but he's not the keeper I typically watch. I really like Tom Moran and Dave's Little Beasties much more. They focus more on the husbandry aspect, and I've learned a lot of things from watching their videos.
