Is it Solpugid, solfugid or solifugid. I have seen it spelled all of these ways and all seem to be correct on google.

Solifugae is the name of the order, so "solifugid" should be an acceptable term for an individual, but it should only be capitalized when the full, proper name of the family is used.

Solpugidae refers to one of 12 families of Solifugidae, which has led to some confusion. I think "solpugid" would be acceptable if one were discussing a member of that family, but most species discussed by hobbyists belong to other families, especially Eremobatidae (the larger North American species) Galeodidae (the giant Africans) and Rhagodidae (those unusual black and red ones from Africa).

Solfugid is probably just a common misspelling.

Wade pretty much covered it. Solifugid (sol-if-u-jid) or solfugid are the acceptable versions pertaining to all species. Other common names include windscorpion, sunspider, and camelspider.

Hi Alex,

It's good to have you back on arachnoboards, it's been a very long time since you posted. There has been a lack of Solifugid expertise on the boards since you've been away. Are you still keeping many species of Solifugid?

Cheers,

Hey Dan! Im currently not keeping any captive solifugae. I was keeping a 2.5" (body length) female galeodid, but she sadly passed due to the short life span. I was also up in the forests near Lake Tahoe a little while back observing some awesome Eremobatid species. They are very common under the decaying logs up there where they can hunt a variety of other arthropods. Iv also been very focused on my other favorite arthropods, my giant water bugs (Belostomatidae) and waterscorpions (Nepidae), which I have been constantly observing and studying.
