Camelspiders are not true spiders. The approximately 1000 species form their own order, Solifugae, within the Arachnida. Other common names include solifugids, windscorpions, and sunspiders.

Well; whatever the heck they truely are; they're UGLY. I did a little search on google/images for these suckers and they're pretty freaky looking. Although they do not look similar to those posted on that website link. Plus let's not forget; that's 2 "camelspiders" attached; and alot of people thought it was just 1 huge one.

i had always read how hard it was to find windscorpions or keep them in captivity. after the "war" started, there were a hundred of them at various booths at the last show i attended. no good reason.

Solifugids differ greatly in appearance. Those in the picture are of the family Galeodidae, which contains the worlds largest species (up to around 3 inches in body length). What makes them "ugly"? I guess if being "ugly" is what it takes to be one of the most successful terrestrial predators ever to walk the planet, then yes, they are "ugly".

I keep hoping that I'll come across a solifugid at a show. I think they're very cool animals.
