Throughout the U K, not just the coastal areas, seagulls, Herring Gulls, will take food items, ice cream cones, chips etc, right out of your hands whilst in full flight. They can be quite dangerous at times, mind you it's probably been caused by the idiot tourist that insist on feeding them.

That happens in the states, too! People habituate animals to being fed and then wonder why those same animals steal right out of your hand (or in the case of larger animals, like bears, break into tents and cars, etc).
