How much should I price a well started deli cup sizes starter culture of them for. When I look online I see deli cup sizes cultures for $20 which seems way to high imo.

Same as @8 legged , I'm in Europe and a starter colony is 4€ for me. And I know local reptile breeders who sell them for 2€ or sometimes give some for free.

A general rule of retail sales is to figure out how much it costs to make each unit then multiply that number by 3 to cover expenses and make a profit. It helps to buy materials in bulk to keeps costs down and to shop around for suppliers that give the best deals. Never buy materials retail if intending to resell.

If it is found that the formula above results in a retail price far lower than competitors sell the same thing for, increase your price to near, but still below competitors, to gain an advantage and maximize profit at the same time.

the bag of charcoal i bought was 10lbs and it cost 10 dollars, i made 4 cultures out of a third of a single piece of charcoal.

my cost to produce is next to zero, ill probably just undercut a local seller

i bought two 4oz cultures (she included a lot for a 4oz and cup was full full) from a local facebook meetup for $13ea. i bought another culture from a different person 16oz for $12. i’ve also bought a year ago two 8oz cultures for $5ea.
i would pay up to $15 for a 16oz culture.
USD btw

I sell mine for $10 a culture, generally speaking. That's what I've paid when I purchase them.

You could just calculate 10 dollars to Canadian for accurate price but it also depends on the states or location for the price.

I see them for sale for anywhere from $5 - $20, when I give mine to a local pet shop to sell I do $15 but if someone buys straight from me I do $12 for 16oz cultures

Depending on how developed your colony(ies) are, we can do some math.

Bag of rice for feeding (10 lbs) ~$7
12 Sterilite Containers (6qt)- $2 per/$24 total
Charcoal (15 Lbs Royal Oak)- $13 dollars
Distilled/RO water (10 gallon-jugs)- ~$8 dollars
Time- However much you think it's worth.

It's not a bad thing to do on the side if you're okay with it. My first container right now is filling up nicely; new adults, plenty of babies, etc etc. If you feel like the months buffer per sale is worth the dive, then take it. You're only going to be dumping about $60 tops on a solid setup. If the periodic return is enough for you, go for it.

These costs can be avoided though so it doesn’t have to be this much if you use soil and water is just declorinated tap water. Instead of rice, just feeding old vegetables. You just need deli cups and water and soil to start selling.

i took some pictures of my springtails for the ad and you can make out some of the adults fairly clearly, would anyone be able to tell me the genus or species of them. (originally sold to me as tropical white springtails)

i also have a native species that im trying to culture but i have literally only 1 specimen, so im hoping its parthenogenic. The native species is brown. PXL_20210327_161719050.jpg PXL_20210327_181130247.jpg
