I went on vacation for two weeks. I had to put my dog in a kennal, I had to board my cockatoo at a pet shop, I had to get sitters for my lizards and frogs. Total cost = $231

I power fed my tarantulas in the weeks before I left, and filled up their water bowls to the maximum the day I left. They were all fine when I returned, still had water, and all were ready to eat. Total cost = $0

I understand slings would take more care, but juvs and adult T's are THE pet of neglect. Even easier than snakes!

Actually, even slings don't take any more care. It's quite the myth they need to eat as much as many think they do.

I've left my entire collection alone for more than three weeks and the only loss I ever suffered was an extremely ill sling that I didn't expect was going to make it even before I left.

Feed'em up, make sure they're watered, and you can probably go away for more than a month without any problem.

that is why you should have hired a pet sitter (insert shameless plug for petsitting here!)

AND, a pet sitter that would check on your tarantulas would be the bomb, would it not?!

Once, I was on AOL and they had a "What kind of pet is right for you?" quiz. I skewed all my answers to a pet that required no attention, no walks, no space, basically little more than a pet rock type answers. What it came back with was "Tarantula".

i went away for a weekend and i feed my roaches a blend of apple sauce + dry cat food blended to a paste (a tip i got from someone, i forgot who) well this was my fault but there wasnt enough air flow and it rotted and grew mold all over. after that i couldnt risk exposing my arachnids to these roaches, so i had to do away with them. :(

You're kidding me, right?

Good lord people, what do you think these mold exposed roaches are going to do to your Ts? I *intentionally* feed my roaches molding fruit, it's a great way to avoid wasting money.

We campaign to get people to not be so irrationally afraid of arachnids and most of the keepers are equally irrationally afraid of fungi.
