he is a ball of energy! keeps me up at night while he runs around the cage and chews on everything. Chinchillas love rasins( he goes nuts when he sees the rasin box) not particularly "cuddly" but definatley fun. We got him a huge hampster ball. It's about the size of a bowling ball, and he follows us around the house when he is in it. oh yeah, never in my life have i seen an animal poop so friggin much...these little critters have to bathe weekley, IN A PILE OF DUST LOL!
god that is funny to watch..
Heres some pics..

i love chinchillas...i bought a pair a few year ago and in less than a week they had a baby. now if you put the chinchilla dust in a "bread pan/poundcake pan" and just place it in the cage with 3 chins you will have fun watching. while one is rolling around the other litterly climbs in and pushes the other out.
and a little tip...do not make a chin mad! i never got bit... but they will stand up and threaten you...threaten to pee on you  .
i miss my chinchillas :( , i had to give them to a friend when i left virginia and came to california.)

Chinchilla threat pose? WTF??? he pees on stuff but never on me or my gf LOL
he nibbles on my fingers, but i think it's because they smell like rasins after i feed him. he goes bonkers when i feed him timothy hay. is there a way this guy could ever become "cuddly"?

very cute pets. What is chinchilla dust? What is the life span of these fur balls?

the dust is what they bathe in. it is a dust ground finer than baby powder. they roll around in it to coat their fur. why i dont know. but it's the funniest thing i've ever seen.

I beleve in the wild the dust cleans gunk and parasites out of their fur. Perhaps it also adds a waterproof nature to it? A friend of mine has chinchillas and tells me their coat is extremely good at shedding water droplets

all i know about their coat is because it is so thick and deep they are not very likely to get fleas and stuff.

chinchilla dust... if i remember right ...there is not much water where they are from so they take baths in dust, all the oils and whatever gets stuck to the dust, then they shake it all out..clean chinchilla.
there were originally 3 types of them i heard. one with a rounder face, one with a narrower face and a chinchilla that was bigger than the ones you can get now (think it was called king chinchilla). but that one doesn't exist anymore... at least not alive, maby as a coat :( . i miss my chinchillas, maby i'll get one again...a regular grey...

Do they really use the hamster balls? The chinchilla in my lab just sits still if placed in one.
