Ok, the story of my new tarantula (a 4 or 5" B. Smithi) is not all that epic, but its a story worth the telling anyway...

It all started about a month ago when I purchased a B. Smithi sling from a man online. I waited day in and day out for that sling to arrive but for some reason or another something would push the delivery of my spider back. Well my sling finally arrived and I vowed that I would raise it to be the greatest most awesomest pet spider ever!!! Well over the weekend it died...

So I began my quest to find a new B. Smithi, the spider of my dreams. Well, about a week or so after I first got the sling, I found a B. Smithi adult at a very nice pet store not 30 minutes from where I lived. Naturally the spider was high priced ($80) and I was immediately jealous... Well, a month later, after my sling died, I decided to check back with the nice people of that store to see if they still had a B. Smithi for sale. They did... and it was the same one from a month before! Even better still, the T had molted and the dull orange colors from a month prior, gave wave to a beautiful dark red... Needless to say, I got that tarantula boxed up and I took it home with me.

That was today, and I hope Red and I can live happily ever after. THE END...

Thank you very much... I've never had much luck with B. Smithis as far as finding or buying, but I feel blessed to have found Red... It's a little warrior though, even if it does try to run back toits box when I open up its cage.:)

that was a lucky find. in my area if i manage to even find a spider its a rosie or a pinktoe - and then only in on pet store - AFTER i have them look on a paper to order it.
but i did find a b.smithi on craigslist a few weeks ago - it's mine now.

Yeah, I know how that feels... there's a pet store not 10 minutes from my house that gets ONE tarantula about every month, and they only bring in Rose Hairs or Pink Toes. Then, when you ask them what Ts they can get... they say: "I'm sorry, We only get faxed on mondays so we really cant tell you what we get till next monday." That usually happens on Tuesdays... But this pet store I went to was real nice, with real nice people... These guys know there pets too!

Anyhow its an awesome little place called Safari Pets... I don't know if they're some sort of chain store but its a pretty good pet store if you're ever in Arkansas...

the pet shop that gets t's in my area (it's in yuba city), they had a volunteer come in that is great with reptiles and t's (he actually OWNS reptiles, brings his own iguana or sometimes chameleon with him). they have 2 iguanas (i think they are his pets) lounging around free in the store. he is still there, i think they hired him or maby he still volunteers, but he is only in the reptile part of the store.
