Ok, I got the Mirandas, but were on God's green earth are those Metallicas? I mean really I hear talk of breeding and such...Anyone know how much longer I'm gonna have to wait to get my hands on one?

They are being actively bred in Europe to the best of my knowledge, I have seen spiderlings changing hands for around £140.
Be patient :) They are a very rare spider in the wild, never mind in the hobby - over time prices will drop and availability will rise.

Not an adult slings....

Yeah see I knew about that spider (of course), But I'm not interested in developing spiders...Anyone know about any that are being American "corn fed, and bred?" I'm sorry but I'm not going to even talk about the whole 350 dollar thing....

Bluerich74,
What did the sling look like?

MizM,
Umm, Poecilotheria metallica, not Avicularia metallica.

I don't think anyone in the US has adults, much less is breeding them. All the slings here are imported from Europe...take an already high priced spider, figure in transport costs and dealer markup and...ouch!!!

If they're successfully bred here, the price will come down. Of course, this assumes that the inbreeding that must take place to establish them doesn't weaken the bloodline as it apparently has some other species. I'm not saying it WILL, as many spiders in the hobby today are from inbred stocks and seem to be OK.

I believe Todd was referring to a Xenesthis or Pamphobetoeus species.

Poecilotheria metallica look like most other Poecilotheria spiderlings. Small, leggy, brown with darker markings. They get quite blue as time goes on, but adults have a more subdued coloration. The ventral view of an adult is most spectacular though.

If I'd have known how excited people would get I would have taken a picture of the tray of 30 or so at the BTS show.
There was a lot of potential money sitting on that desk......
