I checked out a book today at the library with this title (by R.D. Bartlett). I thought it cool that most of my choices for herps were in the book :) I thought I'd share the list for those who haven't looked at the book. Also, I would like to see if anybody has any they'd add to the list?

Corn Snake (Pantherophis guttata guttata)
*California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)
Variable Kingsnake (Lampropeltis mexicana)
Honduran Milksnake (Lamropeltis triangulum hondurensis)
Rosy Boa (Charina trivirgata)
*East African Sand Boa (Eryx colubrinus)
Ball Python (Python regius)
Common Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis ssp.)
Brown House Snake (Lamprophis fuliginosus)
Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius)
Fat-Tailed Gecko (Hemitheconyx caudicinctus)
*Crested Gecko (Rhacodactylus ciliatus)
Inland Bearded Dragon (Pogona vitticeps)
*Eastern Blue-tongued Skink (Teliqua scincoides scincoides)
Red-footed Tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonaria)
*Razor-backed Musk Turtle (Sternotherus carinatus)
Ornate Horned Frog (Ceratophrys ornata)
Oriental Fire-bellied Toad (Bombina orientalis)
*Dumpy Treefrog (Pelodryas caerulea)
Red-eyed Treefrog (Agalychnis callidryas)
Green Treefrog (Hyla cinerea)
*Dwarf Underwater Frog (Hymenochirus curtipes)
Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)
Japanese Fire-bellied Newt (Cynops pyrrhogaster)
Eastern Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens)

I know that these are commonly known, but I'd thought I'd go ahead and share for those who care or would like to add their own.

*My personal favorites

I know what you mean. I'd have a lot more if I had the money and time.

^ These top 25 are supposed to be easy to keep species for the novice. Corn snake would be my choice.
