Man, talk about invasion. Looks like they're in need of wasps for crowd control!

Wow, and I thought the gypsy moth population here was bad...! It's like a big ice web storm hit everything in town!

Seeing the first picture, I wondered hmmm a tree, no big deal, but as soon as I saw the closer shots, wow. The bicycles covered were unreal, can you imagine locking your bike to a tree, returning later that day to find it covered in web and catapillars.

As one person mentioned, where are the birds? When birds finally find this tree, I certainly would not want to park my car anywhere close by. lol

wow, that is amazing! things similar to the first few pics can be witnessed in BC. not to far south of you tyrel. i have seen trees similar to those size covered like that. the last few years i have not seen the numbers there used to be on vancouver island or the gulf isls. are they (the gov) spraying? did the aerial gypsy moth sprays affect tent catepillars?

I think that There is only a big infestation every few years. Mabye five to ten years? I have seen tent catepillar infestations, but nothing like the ones I've posted above!

They look more like "webworms" to me, than "tent catepillars"?

Yes they are tent caterpillars, probably will look like one of these when they get older. (continues on page 2)

Actually upon a closer look, they look more like web-spinning sawfly larvae (Family: Pamphiliidae), than either Lasiocampids (tent-caterpillars) or Arctiids (fall webworm).
