Hi all,

I have owned Tarantulas for a few years, both being Grammostola porteri, recently I bought a Goliath bird eater - juvenile or earlier or that's what the shop sold to me ( I am calling tomorrow to get the specific name as it was not written on this one's enclosure), it had just molted a few days before I came in and bought it and I just had a kind of weird question. What type of lighting do you use around it? I know the general gist is they don't respond well to loud noises or super bright environments so I just wanted to get a consensus on what other people are doing. Last thing, I know this type of Tarantula is known to be aggressive when the smaller things change but I was wondering how long y'alls stayed in the stress potion after buying and bringing home. I know this will not tell me a lot about my specific tarantula but it is to get an idea.

Also is there anything that would be good to know about them, I have been monitoring this thread for a while and have bought the book - Tarantulas Keepers Guide to fill in the blanks of what I may be missing.

First off, use latin names, there are 3 types of ”goliath birdeaters” if using english names its just gonna get confusing with mad names.

Check out the beginners guide: https://arachnoboards.com/threads/tarantula-information-for-beginners-and-more.318718/#:~:text=If the tarantula walks or,avoid being bitten or haired. and read it IN DETAIL

Many questions have been asked already, search the forum. In general, they can be stressed from a few to a couple of days after moving.

No lighting for tarantulas.

DON’T USE ANY PET SHOP GUIDES! Care guides kill lives! ONLY use this forum, Tom Moran or Dave’s little Beasties for info. There are a LOT of experienced, knowledgeable, helpful people on here.

Lights and tarantulas are fine!! No lights are also fine too!

Not to you OP. But I wonder what stupidtuber started all this light risk stuff. Feel like this is the 20th topic about lights

There is no telling, between Tiktok and YouTube the misinformation highway has gotten larger - Just the other day I saw a Tiktok of someone telling others that Cyriopagopus lividus make good beginners and that was enough for me to close the app.

Common sense really.

If you want plants in the enclosure, you'll need lights, the correct ones for plants.

If no plants, or artificial ones you can still have lights, just connect the lights to a timer, as inverts won't appear until they sense lower temperature/ pressure in the environment - Night time.

If you’re using anything other than AB, it’s the user who has issues too🤣

This site is the only solid source of info on the net. Not Stupidtube, Crapbook, Dumbtok, etc

Any lighting is fine

They aren’t aggressive.

Yeah from what I know lights are good, I have small led strips that produce next to no heat and fully dimmable or colour with the remote.
