Can tarantula hairs get airborne through the enclosure's ventilation holes?

Hey guys I've read a few posts about tarantulas' urticating setae being airborne due to strong winds and I wanted to know if my situation is fine.

I'm currently renting a small room where I keep my Ts as well. I'm planning on getting a Theraphosa stirmi sling but I'm afraid that my ceiling fan could blow its hairs all around the room.

Funny thing is I own a juvie LP and I know their hairs are pretty bad too but thus far I've had no problems (I make sure to keep my fan off when I'm dealing with its enclosure). I'm just wondering if the situation would the same with a Stirmi.

Any input would be great 😬😬

Don’t overthink. You’re not gonna get hairs blown into your bed

YES! I’ve had it happen many many times with my B boehmei!! 🤮

I hate it.

Have you seen setae? They are super small, and float on air currents in a normal room even without a fan- like dust almost.

Interesting. How did you deal with it?? 🤔

Maybe I can place them at a corner where there's less wind blowing around their enclosures. I could even place them in between other enclosures so less wind would pass through.

Thanks for your input!! 👍👍

Oof sad 😔

Welp I have 1 LP, 2 Pamphos, 3 Phormics, 1 Brachy and 1 Genic and everything is good so far. I feel like a Stirmi may not change much 🤞🤞
I have a bunch of pamphos and phormics. Right now I have a Stirmi pair and their hairs are pretty bad during premolt. Not so uncomfortable that I can't be in the same room, but enough to wheras I notice some mild eye irritation or itchy hands. Not severe but people with allergies may have a difficult time. This isn't a sp you want to be haired by though.

Exactly!! I've heard lots about Theraphosa setae and I wanted to make sure I can deal with em before getting one. I've heard of a good practice where keepers mist the enclosure during their premolt so the setae don't go flying. But yeah coming in contact with their setae is to be expected.

Thanks for the info!! 😁😁

T stirmi is considered by many people to have some of the most irritating urticating hair for hobbyists.

If it's blowing on the tanks then yes.

I see. Then I shouldn't worry much because my ceiling fan isn't blowing directly on their enclosures. Plus I can keep the Stirmi (and LP) in the mid section of the rack so not much wind will pass through them.

Thanks for the info!! 😁👍
