Tarantula remedies, surgeries, procedures, etc...

After being in the hobby for some years now there seems to always be something new to learn. I came across this youtube video showing a tarantula being put to sleep for a short period to do a minor surgery using baking soda and water to create CO2 which put the t to sleep, I thought it was interesting. I have never seen or heard of this method before, but looks to work for doing procedures on tarantulas.
Has anyone used this method before or tried it?
Or any other procedures, remedies, surgeries, methods etc... that any of you would like to share. What is your take on this video?

Avicularia purpurea needed surgery: http://youtu.be/XcCVzHPcmbo

Very interesting, but I would reserve this method for extreme situations only. Who on earth has any idea how this effects them in the long run? Palps grow back eventually so to me it wouldn't be worth harming or killing the T since they can ultimately live without a palp for a while. I would like to know when this video was made and how the Avic has been doing since.

Are there any known uses for surgery outside of molt issues? I would imagine that anything like a rupture of the abdomen would be too difficult to mend.

It's probably the safest method so far. Idk about tarantulas, but we use ether to anesthitize fruit flies. Scientists use a CO2 tank and a little electricity to milk them. I can't imagine it's necessary to use to remove a molt since the T would be pretty much incapacitated already. It should be done in a controlled environment with experts only. Thats personal opinion. Too much CO2 will result in a forever unconscious T :/. I've read ruptures and such could be repaired with super glue but idk how safe that can actually be. Hopefully people with a lot of experience can comment on this thread. It's a really good question.
