From the topic of 'Cock Fighting' or 'Dog Fighting', is there such thing as Illegal Tarantula/other Arachnid fighting out there? I was watching a show on Cock Fighting and it just made me curious if this existed out there. To me it sounds like it would exist, just not as talked about or popular. I know it would be terribly sad, just curious thats all! :)

Sure, tarantulas have death matches all the time, organized by hobbyists from all around the world - it's called breeding, and if it isn't a draw, then the lady always wins! {D

Ive often wondered myself... I watch mine in action and decide which of my 120 i would bet on in a brawl. The answer always shocks people. The most vicious tarantulas in my eyes (I mean with something their size, not aggressive towards humans etc) are the chilean rose and the versicolor.... Go chew on that! Ive seen my versicolor destroy mice 3 times its size, and the rosehair do the same. On a different occassion, my ingenious friend fed an unwanted lil chilean rose to a cobalt blue, thinking; the most aggressive T in most peoples eyes will have no problem handling a significantly smaller rosehair.... Well, he found out the hard way, that the rosehair shouldnt be used as a feeder! It kicked the cobalts behind... eating it about down to nothing. A few days later the same genius stuck his hand in the versicolor cage to get something out, the spider was in the way, he tapped it on the abdomen, and it swung around and ran after his hand, embraced it, and layed some fangs in..... Never underestimate these two calm, but mean when provoked killers.... I guess some just know how to hide their inner demons!

I slightly feel sorry for you're friend! hahahaha {D

I bet my little rose hairs could take something larger then them! It would be a tough fight but I bet they could handle something bigger...not like I'm going to try it though! :D

Silly world when ya think about it huh? Who ever woulda guessed that the rosehair would be the one to show out? One time as a test, I got a rosehair on a cup lid and sorta moved it close to another rosehair,... Both of them totally flipped out and started acting as if they were cats on fire! (and this was at a good foot apart)

Oh I'm sure it exists, just haven't seen it documented. You hear about the US troopers fighting camel spiders, Chinese kids fighting jumping spiders/male crickets, why not the T's?

Camel Spiders! We got one of those at a pet store i once worked at. It was a mean little bugger. It would rear up it's legs and show you its mighty fangs if you so much as looked at it.

Places like mexico do it commenly aswell. kids often will have tarantula battle pits. [from what I've heard of the people that go visit down there] I used to fight jumping spiders in boredum.. it was rather intresting to watch them jump and leap and collide in mid air then battle each other on their silk until they let go or one got nailed..I don't do this any more although I do often canabilize black widows to each other to produce larger adults [now thats an intresting fight]

Iv heard of T fighting in mex at least once before from ppl who have been looking for stuff there so its a fair bet its not that uncommon, more common is seeing Brachy's for sale at mexican markets as pets in gold fish bowls and plastic bags at least some of them get a good home plus 4 bucks is probally to much to pay for a fighter ;P

Its pretty popular in the Phillipenes too. People carry their spider around in a matchbox and put them on a stick to fight.
