Why bother? You couldn't pick an easier creature to hide. It's not as if one is going to start barking when a cop happens to be driving by. Unless you have other reason to believe your home might be raided you're home free.

the only time it would be a concern is:

A. If you take them to presentations

B. Bites some one

C. Gets out of his/her home then out of yours

Or D. You have a party and unbeknownst to you, one of your guests is a fish and wild life/USDA enforcement geek, and you ask him if he wants to see your "T". You then get drunk and take your "T" out, hand it to him where it promply runs up his shorts:D

hmm

If you want or even need a permit I would go to your local chamber of commerce and ask them. I personally dont think you need one. You cant help a bite. They only thing is that you cant let any of your buddies hold the t incase of an accident.

Also worth considering/looking into is if it is actually enforced. There are a whole slew of city laws where I live that aren't actually enforced anymore, but still exist in the official city posting.

I would get the permit if you were serious about having a collection of tarantulas. I wouldn't risk having someone find a tarantula in a parcel addressed to me if tarantulas were illegal in that area, and I wouldn't risk someone going to the authorities about my collection in order to have something against me.

I am sure you can go to a City Hall or go to the city/state's website and inquiring about having tarantulas. They'd be willing to help you out if you are able to obtain a permit. But in areas like Brazil, it's impossible to legally own a tarantula.

I don't think you should go, "Where can I get a permit," and follow it up with, "What's the fine of being caught?" That just shows you're willing to break the law or, at least, thinking about it as long as the consequences aren't too severe. Depending on how big your collection is (which will be seized and the tarantulas destroyed, would you risk this?), which you'll no doubt be very much invested in, the city/state/gov't would fine you per arachnid under your care, and I'm sure it adds up fast.

I just think you're doing more for the community/hobby by not being illegally involved.

This is true. Its funny though. They dont enforce it until something bad happends where someone gets hurt. Then the law is put against you..... Ironic isnt it..

A wise man once said...

"F*** the police."

George Washington would've shot someone in the face if they told him he couldn't own a spider.

Edit:
Oh i just realized... he doesn't have his location listed, but he's in a group... "Canadians."
They didn't have good ol' G.W. to stand up for their god given rights.

You didn't mention if they were illegal unless you had a permit, or just flat out illegal.

If they're plain old illegal, then you can't even get a permit. Because they're illegal.

So yeah, stick with what crpy said.

As Agent Zed said in Men In Black: "Anonymity is your ally." Ask yourself if this stupid law stems from (A) an issue of morality, or (B) from the machinations of some tin horn Little Man whose father didn't hug him enough when he was a child. If the answer is (B), just keep your T's on the low-low.

thanks
thats what i figured. Im in niagra falls ontario/st catherines area. It is illigal to own, unless you get some permit (i dont even know if hobbiest can get it, but it said vets, humane societies .. could house them. The law page also said max 3 cats/dogs per house, no outdoors cats and all cats including outdoors cats must crap on your own property. I dont think its a big deal as long as i correctly care for them, but i would gladly get a permit if it was easy enough to obtain

When T's are outlawed, only outlaws will have T's.{D

You could, of course, move south of the border to the land of freedom.;)

Ministry of Government Services Call: Toll Free: 1-800-268-1142 may have an answer for you or be able to direct you to one.

TEARS, formerly known as Kris’ Reptiles (The Exotic Animal Refuge Sanctuary) may still exist Chris Morabito may help if you can find a way to locate him.

by-laws regarding the care of animals in the city of Toronto. The Toronto Board of Health is drafting the by-law, along with the help of Liz White, Director, Animal Alliance of Canada, and Holy Penfound, Director, Zoocheck Canada Inc. (Known animal rights activists). This was like 1998.

anyhow that's all I can provide, maybe...

I had a friend try and get a permit for some of the more venomous scorpions and well they came and seized all his scorpions. The people who make the laws have no clue about the animal they want to ban. They just say hey I don't want people to keep these and I'm doing them a favor to save lives LOL. If your responsible and have knowledge about the species them f**k it keep em. Heck all the cool stuff will kill you LOL.

It wont be a large collection of t's since i already have tons of other stuff, but mayby just a couple species. It would probably be a versicolor (have), obt and a smithi. It will probably grow eventually, but in a coupel of years ill probably be out of the municipality anyways. The one thing i was afraid of in obtaining a permit is getting my house raided before i have a permit. It would be entertaining though to see them take an obt into "custody".
