I just received these babes from Julesaussies from a breeding loan of my male A avi.

They look like pod children being beamed down onto my laptop.

Thanks Jules great packing job.

How to get them in is also my question. I think it's a great method for sending small slings.

Oh yippy!!! I'm so happy Peter's little babies got to you safely and early in the day!! :)

Yes, Ryan is the Master Packer. I had sought out his professional advice before packing these very special babies! If he wasn't already the ArachnoGod, his title would be ArachnoPacker!! ;P

Let me know how they look and what you think after you get a chance to unpack them. There is one particular extra speedy one in there who was the only challenge. I should have marked him - he should be a keeper!

Cool - Thanks!

Yes, obviously the slings safety in traveling is the number one priority and it doesn't get any better than Ryan's strawmobiles.

However, I am also a HUGE fan of how easy it makes unpacking these guys right into their new homes. Especially with crazy Avic and Pokie slings!!

Awesome!
Was it easy to pack little fuzz ball avics?
Good job!
It couldn't have been any easier! I was shocked how easy it was. It was easier to pack all those little guys than housing just one of the buggers in it's new vial home.

I learned from the Master ArachnoPacker!! :worship:

Does anybody else use the spitball method of unpacking?
Take out both pieces of paper towel and blow on one end of the straw forcing the sling into the enclosure?
if so, yep.

I just tried this with my OBT slings and accidentally swallowed one.... :liar:
(I seriously would laugh in the next 24 hours if someone posts something about doing that and "i think the abdomen ruptured!" or even worse... the post being a "bite report" man that might be an interesting read....)

But seriously.... that is ingenious. Ryan, i think i am going to order slings from you in the future just so i can see this packing method for myself, very cool!

Cheers

Well, I have found I don't have to blow on the straw to get the little spitball, oh I mean sliing into his new home. I just remove the papertowel from one end and gently push a q-tip through the other and the little sling just walks right into his new house! ;)

Wish I had a pic, but I bought my 1.5 inch T. Blondi from Botarby8s.com and SOMEHOW he managed to roll the sucker up tightly in a paper towel and shove the paper towel down in a very small tube with a snap on lid. When I first received it I was very upset because I just knew there could not be a 1.5 inch T in there. I pulled the paper towel completely out and just kept unrolling it. He was at the very end, and WAS 1.5 inches. The only way it seems like you could do this is to grab the T, place it on the paper towel and quickly roll it up. I even asked him how he did it and he said, "Just a matter of getting them where you want them to go." OOOOkay.

The last slings that I got from Ryan, I just removed paper towel from both ends and placed the straw in the new home. By morning, all 4 were out of the straws and in their favorite spots.
I do like Ryan's change from stapling the ends to using wads of paper towel. The first slings I got from Ryan were in white straws and I couldn't remove the staple so I had to cut the end of the straw. I was praying that the sling wasn't snuggled up in the end that I cut.

Don't mean to bring up a dead thread like this, but I feel I have to make an important point.

What if they molt during shipping...?

That is never an issue for me mainly because I am shipping slings that just molted into 2nd instar. But even if they had not recently molted it is very easy to spot a sling in premolt and if I spot one then I don't ship it until it molts.

LOL this was one of my favorite threads. I have since received several shipment of Avis this way, all made it just fine. The one shipmet which was a lil tough was the one from Hexd, he used colored straws ( all he had on hand) and a couple of slings came out tail first and weren't very happy;P

I see this as the future of shipping slings.

Great Idea Talken!!!
