i have a 7incher Blondi and apophysis i want to know if its time for them to breed.
i dont doubt that for a minute, its also down to genetic size, there could well be some blondis that mature at smaller sizes than others. I have worked on the assumption (and it is only an assumption) that the mature female roughly corresponds with the mature male size, so a blondi under that assumption would be mature at around 3 years at the 8.5 inch mark. not sure where that leaves the king baboon though!!I have seen blondi females at 6.5 drop sacs. Over all I think most females of most species are able to reproduce younger and smaller then you might think.
blondi size is variable, in my experience they reach annual moult size at around 3 years at the 8.5 ish leg span, with each moult they gain about 1/4 inch or so legspan which coincides with a relatively larger increase in carapace size and leg thickness. The largest verified blondi ive seen from a scale photo was a true 25cm (about 10 inches), this gave a carapace of 46 x 44 mm!! a monster indeed, im not sure the fabled 12 inch female blondis exist, the carapace would be around 2 inches, id have to see that to believe it.I've been told that most Theraphosa ssp. actually average out to be around 9" when fully grown.
So...yeah, breed away. Let us know how it turns out![]()
I'd believe it (but wouldn't buy it without seeing ruler pics), but I'd also imagine that specimen was freakishly large.blondi size is variable, in my experience they reach annual moult size at around 3 years at the 8.5 ish leg span, with each moult they gain about 1/4 inch or so legspan which coincides with a relatively larger increase in carapace size and leg thickness. im not sure there is any evidence for that 13 inch male, and if there is it seems to be rather hidden. 12 inches might not seem that much bigger than 10 but it amounts to a much more massive spider, compare an 8 inch blondi to a 10 inch one and i bet its at least twice the mass, as far as im aware a 12 inch female has never been documented, in fact ive never even heard of an 11 inch blondi, if anyone has one they have yet to show the evidence, and if anyone has one we would love to see the evidence!I'd believe it (but wouldn't buy it without seeing ruler pics), but I'd also imagine that specimen was freakishly large.
I *think* guiness lists the largest blondi specimen at 13 inches...a mature male.
So 12 inches isn't terribly unbelievable.
